SHERYL ALEXA HOKE SHAFFER served in the U.S. Women's Army Corps from 1968 until 1971 and was honorably discharged at the rank of SP/5.
After basic training at Ft. McClellan, Alabama she was trained as a Personnel Specialist and was stationed at Ft. Knox, KY and at the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany.
She attended college on the G.I. Bill and graduated from Skyline College in 1972 with an A.A. degree and from San Francisco State University with a B.A. degree in Theatre Arts in 1974. After she attended graduate school at S.F.S.U., Sheryl moved to Hollywood. She worked as a talent coordinator at a top children's talent agency. She also completed an internship on "Hill Street Blues" in 1982. While living in San Fernando Valley, she attended California State University Northridge and took many broadcasting courses. She graduated from C.S.U.N. in May 1997 with a second BA degree in Radio, Television and Film. She hosts and produces Public Access TV series "Veterans Helping Veterans" at the
in Palo Alto. Over 120 programs have been completed.
Sheryl was with the Employment Development Department for 25 years. She was the Local Veterans EmploymentRepresentative (L.V.E.R.) at the E.D.D. in San Carlos until her retirement on April 30, 2004. She established the Veterans Employment Committee of San Mateo County in 1993 and is currently the Chair of the V.E.C.S.M. She was honored as the L.V.E.R. of the Year for California 1999 from the American Legion, AMVETS and the Disabled American Veterans. Sheryl completed courses in Case Management at the National Veterans Training Institute N.V.T.I. at the University of Colorado at Denver. She is an Army trained journalist and graduated from the Defense Information School of Journalism at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana in 1974.
Sheryl currently serves as the AMVETS District 4 Northern Area Commander and is a life member of AMVETS Post 34 of San Francisco, Ca. She enjoys creating and maintaining this web site for the Veterans Employment Committee of San Mateo County. It is a work in progress. We hope you find it beneficial.
