The regularly scheduled meetings of the Veterans Employment Committee of Santa Clara County (VECSC) are held at 7 P.M. on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the Campbell E.D.D. One Stop office located at 2450 S. Bascom Ave. Campbell. All interested parties are invited and encouraged to attend; if you would like to get in-volved with some great folks who do some very worthwhile things for veterans in this area, come by and pay us a visit.

The Veterans Employment Committee of Santa Clara County will award at least one veteran a $1000 scholarship to further their education; established in 1997, the Bill Estes Memorial Scholarship is named for one of our past chairs, a retired Navy veteran and a great advocate of services for veterans. We will also have the opportunity to award a $500 scholarship to youth who will be attending college or vocation-al school; established in 2000, the Ron Corbal Memorial Youth Scholarship is named for an Army veteran who worked as a Veterans Program manager in the state Employment Development Department and also attended the National Veterans Training Institute in Denver. The May is Veterans Appreciation Month Walk-a-Thon is the venue for these fund-raising efforts.

S.C.C.V.E.C. HISTORY and MISSION.

The Santa Clara County Veterans Employment Committee consists of representatives from many local area Veterans Service Organizations.  The mission of the VEC is to promote the employment of Veterans within this county, to assist local employers in recruiting qualified Vets to fill their job openings, to provide employment-related assistance services to needy job-seeking Veterans and to assist local EDD field offices in their efforts to facilitate the employment of all Veterans.  Our VEC, formed in 1960, is one of the oldest in California and has always been a leading innovator among VEC’s in developing new methods of providing assistance to job-seeking Veterans. Veteran Service Organizations which are actively represented within our VEC include  Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA), American Legion (AL), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), AMVETS, Fleet Reserve Association (FRA), Marine Corps League (MCL), the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), United Veterans Council (UVC).

Personnel representing the County Veterans Service Office (CVSO) and the Next Step Center (NSC),  and local EDD Vet Reps (DVOPs and LVERs) are also active members of our Committee. The Committee is a chartered, all-volunteer and strictly non-profit organization.  The Committee has planned, organized and produced fourteen successful annual Veterans Job Fairs, held each spring in San Jose,  since 1986. Ours is the only VEC in California which consistently generates sufficient financial resources to support an annual cash scholarship to assist local Veterans with their educational needs (see related scholarship article elsewhere on this website).   Regular meetings are held at the San Jose (Campbell) EDD office the third Tuesday of each month.   Anyone interested in Veteran employment is always welcome and is encouraged to attend and take part.  Our monthly meetings begin at 7:00 pm at the EDD office, 2450 S. Bascom Ave., Campbell, CA  95008. For more information, please call any of the EDD Vet Reps listed below:
