JAMES CLARENCE HOKE
June 19, 1923 - October 22, 1998
Jim, a long time Miami, Florida resident loved to tell stories of early Miami and his childhood adventures there. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps as a Master Gunnery Sergeant.

In 1940, Jim entered Basic Training when he was 17 years old and was sent to Guadalcanal in 1942. While there, he fought hand to hand combat with a Japanese soldier who was a flag bearer.
After 26 years, a veteran of WW II and the Korean War, his duties included highly classified assignments as a crypto-analyst. He was stationed throughout the world earning numerous medals during his distinguished career.
Jim Hoke was one of "The Greatest Generation."
He married Blanca Armida Romero on December 28, 1943 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
They had two children, Jeffrey James born January 27, 1947 and Sheryl Alexa born January 13, 1948.
After Jim and Blanca divorced in the late 40's, Jim married Cecile R. Wentworth (Knight). Her three children were adopted by him: James E. Wood, November 9, 1950, Lyriss K. Wentworth, February 12, 1955 and Melanie S. Wentworth, Jan. 2, 1958.

He served many years as a member of the Orange Bowl Committee, was a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
He is the son of Lucile Hendershot Hoke Buffin and Clarence Johnson Hoke.
