The Dedication Ceremony was October 15, 1998 at the VA Hospital at 795 Willow Road in Menlo Park.

This date was selected to coincide with the First Year Anniversary (October 18, 1997) of the Women in Military Service For America Memorial WIMSA in Washington, D.C.

This is the first memorial of it's kind dedicated to Women Veterans in California.

This project is the idea of Winifred Matthies of Los Gatos, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in WWII. She wrote a letter to the State Assembly recommending that part of the highway be named in honor of all women veterans, past, present and future!!
