VETERANS EMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE OF SAN MATEO COUNTY

MINUTES

May 17, 2010

The quarterly meeting of the Veterans Employment Committee of SM Co. was held at the VAPA Menlo Park Division, 795 Willow Rd., Menlo Park, CA, Bld. 323 Next Step Center Program conference room.  Present: Sheryl Shaffer, Chairwoman; Rose Sutton, Next Step Director of Employment & Training Programs; Helen Wong, Treasurer.  Excused: Jim Blank, EDD; Jeff Young, County Service Officer.  Due to a lack of a quorum, a round table discussion took place. 

·         Update on the Oprah tv show on PTSD-show put on hold

·         Sheryl is doing a tv show tomorrow night on "The Truth About PTSD" with guests psychologist Dr. Bridget Cantrell, and Stacy Sprinkle, Attorney.  The show will be uploaded to blip.tv and PEGMedia.org.  Anyone can download & show the programs.

·         Hometown Days Parade & Festival on May 22.  Sheryl will be taping interviews of people who volunteer to help veterans.

·         Rose has continued to do tv shows with a common thread of educating, helping and informing veterans.

·         Next Step Center has to be out of Bld. 323 by Dec. 31st.  They will be looking for office space.

·         Sheryl enjoys doing the tv shows and wants it to continue.  She will write up an article for the AMVETS newspaper asking for 3-5 min. video submissions from veterans.  She will put a show together and have it on Blip tv.
