Minutes of last meeting: Sheryl reminded everyone that all the minutes are posted on the web site. www.vecsamnt.org. Just click on the Minutes link on the home page to view the minutes. March 07 minutes were read and accepted with minor corrections
Correspondence: We received the minutes from the SCVEC.
Secretary/Treasurer Report: Helen Wong reported account balances and submitted transaction reports.
Next Step Center: Rose Sutton, director, reported the center is in process of regrouping from a difficult period while waiting for funding award announcements. Funding due to start on January 1st was not announced until mid March. The center is pleased to announce receiving Workforce Investment funding. There have been adjustments to the program and with the support of collaborating agencies, full services are continued. The San Mateo County Veteran Service Officer (CVSO), Allan Moltzen, is providing services at the center. The CVSO is available at Next Step once a week (Mondays) for veterans to file or make inquiries about their benefits claims. Grant proposals are being written and if approved will allow for additional future staffing of the center. The center has renewed an M.O.U. with Santa Clara County and San Mateo County EDD offices to continue to provide customized employment services to Next Step enrolled veterans. Next Step has undergone many changes and over come monumental obstacles, most of which would have caused the demise of a less tenacious organization. Next Step welcomes all veterans in need of employment services.

E.E.D. Staff: Members of the VECSM were present at the Hometown Days Parade on May . Sheryl spoke to the crowd and Helen Wong and Sheryl Shaffer had a table at the Hometown Days parade. Lucio Vera and Michael Taylor were also present and they made presentations and gave gift cards to some veterans and their family members. Michael Taylor told us that Lucio has been transferred to a Sacramento Job Service office. Linda Gomes will have more of a presence at the EDD in San Carlos.
TV Show: Sheryl Shaffer said she will the guest on the show on Tuesday March 20, 2008 and Rose will be the host. They will discuss the history of the VECSM and how the TV show was started.
Frank and Susan Sherr said they had attended the San Francisco Job Fair in early May and that they mostly had security type of jobs there.
FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER: Helen Wong mentioned that the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 464 will have a booth at the July 4th parade in Redwood City. The AMVETS Bar B Que will be on Saturday, September 13.
Please note that we meet once a quarter and that the next meeting date is Monday, September 15, 2008. We encourage you to join us and participate as we would like to keep our VECSM going but we need you to help us. Please mark your calendar. The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
