Minutes of last meeting:  The March 06 minutes were read and there were no additions or corrections.

 

Correspondence:  Minutes of other VEC meetings were received as well as a few ads.

 

Secretary/Treasurer Report:  Helen Wong reported account balances and submitted transaction reports.  She said Jim Blank, who works for the EDD/Employment Taxes Division, advised that we may be in violation, as it appears that we are paying the VECSM Chair a salary/wages (and not reporting the wages), when in fact are not-as opposed to reimbursements for actual mileage incurred according to by-laws, had contacted her. Mileage forms were created. These forms are submitted, as the Chairwoman is able to make the quarterly meeting. She was not able to make the meeting in March but was able to chair this quarter’s meeting.  Bills pending include renewal of the Post Office box in San Mateo. $2,000 was transferred from our money market fund to our checking account.  We still have not received any receipts from Rose Sutton for the TV shows she has hosted. Rose will host a TV show in June and July.

 

Next Step Center: Rose Sutton was excused.  Rose will host a TV show in June and July. One show will be an update about the Next Step Center, at the VA Hospital in Menlo Park, will feature staff members and their current outreach.

 

World of Vets Report:  Joseph Cody was excuse.

 

County Veterans Service Officers Report:  Jim Kenney is currently in training and is excused.

 

E.E.D. Staff:  Michael Taylor said he is working at both the Daly City and San Carlos EDD offices. He may soon be out stationed at the Vet Center in Redwood City working with the Helmets to Hardhats program.  He just returned from the NVTI course in Denver, Colorado.  Frank Sherr and Sheryl Shaffer (retired EDD Vet Reps) gave Michael lots of advice about being a vet rep and encouraged him to join and work with Veteran Service Organizations within San Mateo County.  Frank spoke of a disabled veteran he placed with the Triple A office who is still working there.

 

TV Show:  Sheryl Shaffer asked Michael Taylor if he would be a guest in September for a TV show about EDD’s outreach and services for Veterans. He agreed. She gave him copies of previous TV programs. The TV show is scheduled for September 19.  Sheryl will make arrangements with Sheryl Schmidt, Deputy Director for Women Veterans for the California Dept. of Veterans Affairs in Sacramento do an interview.

 

New Business Decisions: Frank and Helen reported DNC problems with SBC as they were having issues with their phone lines and computer connections to the Internet.

 

FOR THRE GOOD OF THE ORDER:  Phil said there is a flag disposal ceremony T 9 A.M. ON Saturday, June 7 at the Golden Gate National Cemetery and the Marine Corps and other cadets will be involved. . Phil also reminded us that the Harley Hogs would be at GGNC on Sunday June 11. There will be 300 to 600 motorcycles.

 

On Flag Day, June 14, there will be a ceremony at the Stonestown Shopping Center in San Francisco. Last year Helen organized the event for Stonestown in one week and the Jr. ROTC from San Francisco participated.

 

Helen will attend the AMVETS National Convention in Reno, NV during August. The service foundation will give $500 grant towards educational. Helen encouraged Michael and Frank to apply for grants thru Post 53 San Mateo.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
